I'M IN A HOTEL ROOM ON THE TOP FLOOR OF A MEDIUM SIZED FORGETTABLE BUILDING.

THE ROOM HAS A BED ,A CHEST OF DRAWERS(WHO USES THOSE?)AND THERE'S A GREEN SOFA AND A LAMP AND 2 COPIES OF THE KANSAS SWIMWEAR DESIGNS OR SOMETHING.

I'M IN A WAITING ROOM-FOR THE DOCTOR OR SOMETHING.

I LISTENED TO SOME SONGS I MADE AND WONDERING WHICH,IF ANY,I WILL RECORD WITH THIS BAND.

THEN GOT BORED OF MYSELF AND I HAVE A PLAYLIST WITH CAT POWER AND FOG-SO

NOW THEY TRADE OFF TRACKS WITH EACH OTHER.NICE.

IT'S A DRAG TO NOT KNOW WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS BUT IT FEELS TOTALLY PURE AT THE SAME TIME.LIKE THIS COULD CRASH AND BURN,OR JUST BURN ACTUALLY

the day off yesterday was a joke.

first off in madrid,spain-some lethal tennis was being played and i woke up to the final at the madrid masters.

perfect outcome.

i step out of the bus and into the heat.

met the boys on the beach-

and as promised continued into the water.

dropping keys,towel and crackberry with them.

then i wandered the beach diving into the water every now and again.

i suddenly realised i had not eaten and went to the bar with my friend jr-

that is when the liquid breakfast began,normally i'd take eggs over tequila but i am not going to decline a gracious offer and actually it tasted pretty good.

i did actually eat the weirdest sandwich at the same time.

now this was some kind of panini,but i think it was crusty bread holding water.bizarre.

but not even a blip in my thusfar perfect day.

i had a little work to do,then back to the beach and shades on lying on your back in the ocean- floating your stress away trick that we all love so much.

i woke up to the dull thud of rain and looked out to an ominous,yet beautiful dark sky.

i thought about some stretching and then realised i had a bunch of phone interviews-which i did,happily,generally one one leg,or the other,rarely both.

multi-tasking and finding ways to be myself and not be repetitive.

sometimes similar questions illicit similar answers.

anyhow,i feel good and ready for the next run.

i'm on my bus waiting to play tonight's show.listening to pj harvey right now and before that it was the waterboys-i found an old video of them on my friend;'s page.

where does everyone go?

we are working full tilt out here,the shows and audiences have been unreal-

it all feels so good.

if you are coming to any of the upcoming shows,be sure to know we play

tons of different stuff.

and the band is on fire=for real.

i have so much respect and gratitude to my band and crew.they are slaying it night after night.it feels like we havew a day off every three weeks.

it is a brutal pace.saved only by the heat and passion of the crowd.

you make it all worth it.

it's mind-twister to be away so much so i am mindful of the support i'm getting

the great news for me is that we'll have a new song at rock/alternative radio any minute.either frontline or this is happiness.

that makes me so happy!

i am always in the debt of love remains the same-

and forever may you run-but imagine how happy i am to unleash those rock tracks for these rock shows

we are playing a mad venue tonight i swear-our dressing room is a rodeo bar-and this is a big holiday town-and we 're gonna fill it out of season,

everything counter-culture-against the grain-into the wind and out of the blue

"It’s very Zen because I always play people that are usually professional tennis players. So it’s not like I’m really going to be able to beat them. My goal is to hang with them, and hit properly and train properly. So that’s what I do, and yeah – I’m competitive with myself, which is what tennis is. Just try and do it right. I don’t hit and giggle, hit and giggle, that stuff. I want to do it right. So I have fun being intense."

Flying from Toronto to la.

It’s been a great few weeks since I last wrote.

First off,the shows in the mid west were brilliant.

the shows wherever we've played have been something else.

Since it’s the start of the record and playing shows,itseems best to have no expectations and allow each night to be something new.

I can see how the record is firing into people’slives.making assassin music.

I’ll stay the dark horse.

So,each show takes me further out there.

And the audiences….thankyou…you fire me up.

I’ve always thought the shows are looped and energy comesaround,and you treated us like friends you just pick back up with,no matter howlong since you’ve seen them.

And I know there’s new people there too-and so we start anew dialogue and that’s music.

I still consider this really early on this record,

So many still unaware but the word is out and the showsreflected that.

We had a blast in san diego-did some acoustic shows (3 actually)-totally stripped down andintimate.

And then had a brilliant day watching the horses and playinga show at the racetrack at del mar,and the crowd was immense.and wherever youcould see,there were people.rammed is another word.you gotta love that.

And all on a warm summer night.one of those perfect momentsyou have to hold with everything you got.

Then onto vegas-the playground of excess.i love vegas.it isbuilt for pleasure.

We played the joint-which brought back so many bushmemories(like most shows)but I remember the first time we played there,and whowas with us and what we did,yeah,memories……….anyhow the show was excellent.

Then we did an acoustic set at wasted space,the new barinside the hard rock..which was hilarious.i totally enjoyed myself and felt like lenny bruce as the crowd was there to party(vegas)and

We only had a couple of acoustic guitars…so we played awhile and it was surreal and I loved the chaos.

Then on into the good night …,we went out till someonementioned it was light outside and we should be getting flights home.

And these last few days been up here in Toronto-doing promofor the record and “mentoring”on Canadian idol

And performing on there.

It’s obviously a world and a half away from what I know ordo,but quite a way to play to Canada on one night.

I enjoyed it,the contestants really cared about the musicand their singing.as they should,but it was good to see.

I watched them the night after we had discussed their songsand found myself rooting for them all.

I look forward to coming back to Canada to play some showslater in the year.we’ve had some massive shows there.

Some weird airplane food has arrived and I need to have itremoved.so,I have to go get some help.

It’s staring at me and I don’t like it.

I WALKED AROUND THE DOWNTOWN -THE THIRD WARD,IT'S ALL CHANGING,AND SO MANY HAIR SALONS.

I THINK HAIR IS IMPORTANT HERE.I WALKED INTO ONE SALON TO GET SOME INSTANT DIRT FOR MYSELF AND THE GUY WORKING THERE,JUST GAVE ME A TUB OF LAVENDER OIL THING/STUFF.

HE SAID-HERE YOU GO OUT OF TOWNER,ENJOY.

I INVITED HIM TO THE SHOW BUT HE WAS BUSY AND IT WAS AWKWARD,BUT GENEROUS.

THEN I FOUND THE MARKET AND ATE A CATFISH SANDWICH-IT WAS A GOOD ONE.

i'm in vienna after the nova rock show,and tomorrow to amsterdam for some

but tonight was the last of the first bunch of shows.

from new york to tonight in austria.

i've spoken to so many people about this record,and i've seen so many people at the concerts.

i'd like to thank all of you that came out-we had massive festival shows,a bunch of acoustic sessions and of course the

shows in berlin and my blood town- london.

the crowds were so up for it and i think it was intense.the fact is that we had magic people at all the shows who

inspired us on to play out of our minds.

and we wanted to play good for you.so

it felt very communicative-i got lost in everyone as i played.

and as the light fell tonight and the stage lit up like everyone's birthday,it made me feel

that this first outing of this line up was a good omen,

and we were in the right place at the right time.

hey there

where am i-is this a hotel room-again?did i ask for this.yes.i did.it all serves me right the good and the bad.what a few days since i wrote.it feels like a while since i left home.

went to the incandescent nyc-straight into the night for drinks and friend(plus his friends).

that's the style.4 blocks from my hotel.stealing off into the warm glow of the city.not an la experience by any means.

anyhow,the next day it all began with the promo.the reaction to the record has been pretty huge.

of course there has been shards of hate along with the love but what can you expect?putting out a record is placing your head on the road and hoping the traffic will accomodate.

the radio sessions were smooth sailing and i managed to warm the throat up fine despite singing at my 5am(la time)-not an easy task.

letterman was a little more taxing than expected,some technical difficulties,to say the least,but they were overcome and a way was found.

always to good to see dave and the band especially.feels like i've done that show a few times now.

then spent the week between radio stations and press,

dodging personal questions and bringing it back to the music or the world or the moon or nyc.

and before i knew it we were on a plane to germany to do the same,in,erm,germany.

we began in frankfurt onto cologne then hamburg to now,berlin.

i am in my room.we play tomorrow night andi get to talk about myself or the people i know all day.wow.

and then i.........

we travelled by train today and that was pretty funny,such an easy way to go.

the sleeping is weird,or lack of sleeping i should say.the only time i get tired is when i'm meant to get up.

oh yeah i failed to find sleep on the night flight to germany and had to go straight to work and sing so i kind of missed wednesday as a night's sleep.

that was weird and makes for a longer week that's for sure.

my mind is on overdrive.is yours?

i see there are some good records out,maybe time to get more.

the grinderman record is providing much solace on the long journeys.

we have been putting in a lot of road miles-our carbon foot stinks.sorry.

rock am ring and rock am park were a lot of fun to play.you gotta love those big stages.

140,000 people in 2 days.

i thought the band did great for a first show-to 80,000 people.

in at the deep end.

just how it should be.

i am looking forward to the show tomorrow at the lido.german audiences are pretty fiery and this is a late show-,in fact in 24 hrs i will be onstage.

that's a good thought.

i've been waiting patiently for that feeling.

hello and big up to you.

my last weekend in la before the travels.as some of you may know,it's a big day on monday so here's hoping the weather holds so that we can have some serious fun outside.

i just got back from breakfast and a visit to culver city for some errands.

a ton of photographers today for some reason.such an unsubtle way to travel.

the police came to help out-sirens and everything-but there's nothing to be done-

it's useless madness.

i noticed across town some posters for the record.which is ironic.i have always loved posters and every single record i have ever done,i have asked for them-and never got them.

i love seeing who has records out etc.as you sit at traffic lights and whatever,and so now in this current climate,i didn't even bother asking-and there they are.

is there a lesson in that?

i see weezer has a new record too.nice.

i went to amoeba records the other day and stocked up good and proper.long overdue.

i'm listening to nick cave and the bad seeds as i write this.

i love checking the artwork.

listening to the record as it was intended and reading along.

that's the way i like to do it.

i see that tim noble and sue webster did the neon sign for the cover of the bad seeds.

i like those guys a lot,they used to do those crazy piles of rubbish that when illuminated,created these sharp focus sculptures of them both against the wall.

brilliant.

so,i've been up late.the studio is buzzing.just how we like it at

kingston sound

always stuff to do.

last night

i got the mixes for the i-tunes tracks we did at the palms studio in vegas.

maybe a couple of changes but

i think the 6 songs came out well,an acoustic ep with some tripped out guitar.

and some atmospherics,a pretty chilled out selection.

and now here i am,doing super early radio interviews.everyone is so awake.

and i'm playing catch up.

i'm feeling good but all this talking about myself is weird.

and the fact that this is a solo record and not a bush record is dawning on me.

why have i been ignoring that?

i have really just been going with the flow,and now in the midst of these interviews,

being asked if it is weird to be alone,i am realising it is.

but here i am-i need coffee,heavy eyes,light heart-and enjoying the record countdown.

in the next few weeks,there will be an onslaught of STUFF from me.

i like that.

today is quite full of interviews and i think the last one of the morning shows.then the international ones start,then i go to m management offices to meet some journalists in person,and do some on camera tallking.

ever see yourself on camera and you freak yourself out and want yourself to shut up half the time.

now it seems irrelevant to write about myself but i figure these notes to be snapshots into my time and some thoughts....

so here goes and please forgive my trite details having presented the above links.

i guess i'm just reaching out to you to let you know what we've been doing.

monday we played a small acoustic show for 98.7

which was liberating and strangely nerve wracking.

but the audience was intimate and i think it turned out ok.

hope you hear it sometime.

it was good to be singing and playing for an audience.

we did a yahoo session yesterday,and a tv show today(unnamed)as it's not out yet.

which was a total pleasure.

piece by piece we build a bridge to you.

and tomorrow aol.another stripped down session.

i'm working on some music now,a bush song in particular i haven't done in a while.

it's liberating and makes me think of the boys in the band.

and all the good times.

you'll get to hear the fruits of these labours very soon.

the record is edging closer daily.

i had planned to write a longer note to you,however by starting the note with the reports from burma and china,it doesn't feel right.

so i'd better go and allow this moment to be about what it should.

hey everyone.

we're back in the studio working on some cool different versions of the record,

and some b-sides etc.

the session in las vegas went real well and we're putting the finishing touches to it now.

i wonder when i-tunes will release them(6 songs)

it'd be cool to make a whole record there,even if it is close to some serious distractions.

i think it could work great though.i'm really enjoying vegas right now.

it is a different planet.

the studio at the house is pure magic.and it sounds great.big 70's subwoofer and cool speakers make for happy musicians.

me and chris are taking different turns between guitars and singing.

it's a creative time.

and it's cool to hang in,i should post a picture.you gotta see it.

it was a busy weekend.4 birthdays and the kanye west/nerd show on monday and trying to finish a ton of details in the studio.

also some press-

it's a weird one.you meet someone for 40 minutes and try to be yourself and answer as best you can.music is easy,but then the personal stuff-and really you gotta watch what you say as it can be soooo taken out of context and i think i am rusty and so the mistakes can happen and then you wonder

if you're gonna get fried when the interview comes out.obviously i had a worrying interview.

and you know how people diss some artists for being interviewed,talking and responding without saying anything,so you want to be open but that makes it easier to screw up and

then hear about some big mouth comment that you may or may not regret.

so it is a minefield and all i want is to spread the word about the record.

you can see the interviews can stress you out.

anyhow

the artwork is done,the photos are done and now the video is the next big thing.

i'm meant to be doing it next week-haha-

wow-it's all quiet then it's a manic rush.

that's showbiz for you.

i'll keep you posted.

rehearsals start on the 5th may-and then we really start to motor.

good evening.i'm 19 floors up.we had a road trip here from la.we stopped on the way.there's a town called baker w/ a restaurant called the mad greek.we stopped there for a bite.

it was windy and sandy.and a little remote.

not the most talented kitchen but i felt better for a little food.

we're recording some songs for an i-tunes thing. in the studio hereat the palms.

maybe a cover and some stuff from the record.

i think the song -'love remains the same 'has started on the radio-so it is truly out.if you're reading this,clearly you've heard the song on this page.but it's so fun at the start.no expectations and just the thrill of music coming out.

i got sick,so i wish i felt better but maybe some food and some rest.

is that possible in vegas.

well food,yes.

well,the record will be here before we know it and it is getting pretty exciting.

the reaction to the single over the last couple of weeks has been wild.

something that has taken me by mad surprise.

i hope you're digging the trailer we made for the record.

next week,chris arrives here in la and we are going to vegas to do a session for i-tunes at the palms -they have a recording studio in their hotel.it's a stripped down acoustic-thing

and we're driving there instead of flying.

a bunch of us-

road trip style

and we're gonna record a bunch of songs in a day.

some from wanderlust and a couple of covers.

not sure which ones-so i'd better figure it.

it's early here in la-the weekend is ahead

the sky is getting hotter and i wonder how venice is doing.

when i first came to la,years ago,i stayed on the canals there.

they are magic.

maybe we should pass by down there.

retread a little of the past with the present.
